Direct Neurofeedback Lets the Brain & Body Relax
Anxiety can be seen as a milder form of fear. Anxiety is also a chronic over-arousal of the autonomic nervous system; it is an expression of the classic “fight or flight” response of the sympathetic (“fight or flight”) nervous system. As humans we have evolved to react and even over-react when we feel threatened. That we go from “zero to sixty” so easily has been essential for the survival of our species. However, in modern society that over-reaction often leads to chronic anxiety.
That we over-react is not as much of the problem as our brain “forgetting” how to return to “balance” or homeostasis. This is a function of our parasympathetic nervous system. Direct Neurofeedback, by diminishing the flight or fight response, lets the brain and body relax, allowing the nervous system to “reset” itself.
